Quilt Labels

Chocolate Bunny Love (The Quilt Pattern is Bunnies and Stars)

Quilt labels, like the above, are an essential part of quilting.  I can make custom quilt labels for you on your backing (or top if you prefer) with the name of the quilt, the quilter’s name, and the date the quilt was made along with any variety of images you’d like to set it off.  The sky’s the limit on this one!

Most labels would cost approximately $5 to $10 per label, depending on the density of design and lettering.

Preparing for Quilting

  • Please do not pin or baste layers together. Each layer will be loaded onto the quilting frame separately.
  • Quilt Top: Press seams well and clip off any loose threads from the front and back. It is important that the top is well pressed to prevent tucks or pleats during the quilting process. Inspect the top to be sure it is square and lies flat. We will want to discuss any “wavy” or ” puffy” areas during the initial consultation so that we can discuss quilting options to mask any imperfections that occur in any pieced quilt.
  • Embellishments should only be applied AFTER the quilting is complete. While not required, a row of stitching applied 1/4 inch or less from the edge of the quilt will prevent stretching. This is particularly useful for pieced borders or quilts with lots of bias edges. If your quilt has a definite “top”, please mark it with a note pinned to the top.
  • Backing: Backing should be seamed so that it is at least 6″ wider and longer than your quilt top. For example, if your quilt measures 72″ x 92″, the backing should measure at least 78″ x 98″.  Please seam the backing so that it is a horizontal seam rather than a vertical seam.  Please trim off the selvage edges before seaming your backing. Sides should be straight, and the backing squared.
  • Batting: Batting should be at least 6″ wider and longer than your quilt top. For example, if your quilt measures 70″ x 90″, the backing should measure at least 76″ x 96″. For best results, use a high quality batting suitable for machine quilting.  I have a poly/cotton blend available if you don’t provide batting to me.  There is a charge of $.02/square inch for the
  • Thread: There no need to provide your own thread.  If you do provide me with thread, I may have to disallow use of it due to possible damage to the machine. I have a wide variety of high quality threads for you to choose from. One thread, of your choice, is included in the per inch quilting charge.

Prices & Services Offered

Quilting Services

Please feel free to contact us by phone or email for a price quote. We offer edge-to-edge quilting in whatever format you’d like to use. We will help you choose the perfect quilting design that enhances your quilt and meets your budget.

The cost for your project is determined by the size of the quilt as well as your quilting choices. To calculate the square inches, simply multiply the length by the width, as measured in inches. Please note that all measurements are taken before the quilting is completed– the finished size will be slightly smaller, depending on the density of the quilting.

BASTING: $0.005 per square inch

We can baste together your quilt layers in preparation for hand quilting. Basting consists of extra large stitches, stitched in a grid pattern, approximately 3″ apart.

EDGE TO EDGE QUILTING: $0.015 per square inch

A continuous design is applied over the entire quilt. We have many edge-to-edge patterns to choose from and there are hundreds more available.

EDGE TO EDGE PLUS BORDERS: $0.020 per square inch

An edge to edge design is quilted across the central blocks of the quilt. The borders are outlined and quilted with a complementary design. This is an inexpensive option that results in a more custom look by highlighting the borders.

Minimum of $10.00 Set-up fee for all quilts, adjustable by size only.

Additional Services

Additional services, such as attaching binding, hanging sleeve and/or label, and performing repairs are available for a small charge.

Blog– Did you know?

I blog!  It’s over here at my home page– tonight I wrote about a special order that I’m working on . . .

I’m currently knitting three scarves that are a ‘custom’ order from my website, Marcia’s Makings.  That is the point, after all– to make things that people WANT, especially if they ask for it in certain colors or styles.  It’s all the same price but, it’s a matter of what they think of versus what I think of.  I’m more than willing to knit or crochet or embroider or quilt something by request– it doesn’t cost more, so why not?
